Filet Mignon with Goat Cheese Sauce (Keto – Low Carb)

When it’s my turn where we go for date night, I almost always pick a steakhouse. The quality of a steakhouse steak is unreal…so tender, juicy, and melts in your mouth. Plus there is almost always a selection of “fancy sauces” as we call them to dress them up.

But why do we spend a $150 to go out for a date night when I know I can grill a steak and make a keto steak dish just as good at home…dare I say it’s even better than going out. Once I learned how to master my gas grill and my charcoal grills there was really no reason to go out any more.

Keto Steak Dish

I’ve had my share of quality steaks and different brands, but my favorites are a good filet mignon or NY strip.Honestly, these aren’t my everyday steaks, but the ones I choose 100% of the time for special occasion meals like Father’s Day, our anniversary, Valentine’s, and date night.

Ingredient notes and substitutions:

  • Filet Mignon Steaks
  • garlic powder
  • olive oil
  • shallot
  • garlic
  • cumin
  • heavy cream (or milk of choice: almond, soy, cow)
  • goat cheese (or use blue cheese, see info below about swaps)
  • fresh chives
  • fresh parsley

Are Steaks Keto Friendly?

A steak (and all meat, really) is keto friendly. Steaks have essentially zero carbohydrates and are full of protein. Plus, depending on the cut, you’ll get loads of good, healthy fats too.

What Keto Sides Go With Steak?

I love a good steak, but we can’t forget the sides to go with this decadent keto steak with sauce. Try grilling up some broccoli or asparagus for a simple side. Both of those are family favorites and are low carb/keto friendly.

Keto Steaks With Blue Cheese Sauce

Y’all….if you want to change it up, try swapping blue cheese for the goat cheese in this recipe. It’s delicious. Just an even swap 1:1 for the cheeses. You won’t be sorry. And if you want something to dress up your steak, but not quite as heavy…try my keto steak with garlic butter.

How to Perfectly Grill A Steak

A lot goes into grilling the perfect steak. It’s a lot of practice and really learning your grill. Check out my post on How to Grill Steak. And learn more about Grilling in general with my How To Grill Series, 10 BBQ Grilling Tips, andHow to Clean your Grillposts.

Total Time: 17 minutes

Celebrate any day with a delicious grass-fed filet mignon drizzled with a rich goat cheese sauce for a truly decadent meal.

Ingredients

  • 4 (8oz) Filet Mignon Steaks
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon pepper
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 shallot, finely minced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 tsp ground cumin
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream (or milk of choice: almond, soy, cow)
  • 3 oz crumbled goat cheese
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh chives
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley

Instructions

  1. Thaw steaks and set grill direct grilling over medium high heat. Sprinkle evenly with salt, pepper, and garlic powder on both sides.
  2. Cook steaks over a direct flame at medium heat for about 6 minutes on the first side, 4 minutes on the second side, and finally turn steaks on their sides for a quick 1-2 minutes to crisp up the bacon. This should be about medium rare to medium doneness. Cook longer on second side if you prefer a more done steak.
  3. While the steaks cook, saute the minced shallot and garlic in olive oil over medium high heat until tender, stirring often, about 5 minutes. Add in the cumin and cook for another minute. Reduce temperature to low and stir in milk/cream, turn the temperature back up to medium high and bring to a boil. Stir in goat cheese and let simmer until thickened. Finally, stir in chives and parsley right before serving.
  4. When steaks are fully cooked, remove from heat and let them rest 5-10 minutes. Serve with warm goat cheese sauce.
